GEORGE DURAN - BMHOF CLASS OF 1988
George Doran is an influential figure in the Buffalo music world, best known as a founding member
of the well-regarded band Two Hills.
Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the folk-rock genre, particularly with the release of his deeply resonant album Winterwood. The songs on this album reflect his poetic songwriting and the rich acoustic melodies that characterized the era.
Doran’s acoustic performances were a nostalgic journey back to the spirit of the original Woodstock festival, where peace, love, and music intertwined to create a celebratory atmosphere. His shows, marked by genuine emotion and compelling storytelling, often attracted audiences that rivaled those of national and regional acts. Fans were drawn by the promise of an intimate
experience highlighted by his charismatic presence and captivating vocals.
George moved to the picturesque surroundings of southern New York, a setting that complemented his artistic spirit. Although he stepped back from a demanding schedule of regular performances, he remains a beloved figure among fans. His last performance took place in Buffalo during The Belle Star reunion concert, held on the evening before Thanksgiving in 1998. This event was particularly memorable; despite his new look—having parted with his long hair and trademark beard—Doran's passion for music shone through in every note he sang. The intensity and emotion of his performance that night left a lasting impression, resonating deeply with all who were fortunate enough to be in attendance. The concert not only showcased his enduring talent but also served as a poignant reminder of his impactful career in the Buffalo music scene.
