KENNY HAWKINS - BMHOF CLASS OF 2000
Kenny Hawkins, Lead Guitarist, Song Writer and Producer scored various sound tracks for motion pictures, television programs and artists.
Kenny "K Hawk" Hawkins was born, raised and educated in Buffalo, New York. He is one of 5 children and father of Kenice and Mandesia. He recently joined in marriage to his lovely wife Flora.
Inspired by his family of musicians, his father, siblings and aunt, at the age of 15, Kenny began playing the guitar. Kenny says that God gave him the gift and the love of playing music. He later furthered his musical education at Erie Community College in Buffalo, New York and Guitar Institute of Technology in Berkeley, California. He received his broadcasting engineering degree in technical engineering and electronics from Fredonia State College in New York.
Throughout his career Kenny has recorded and performed with many artist such as Rick James, Mary J. Blige, Mary Jane Girls, Boyz to Men, Val Young, Mikey Howard, Shanice Wilson, Process and the Doo Rags, Joe Public, Rico Wade, Shorty B-N-Little John, Too Short, Goo Goo Dolls, Kriss Cross, Silk, Sleepy Brown, Charlie Wilson, Bobby Womack, Snoop Dogg, Teddy Riley and Guy, Raphael Saadiq, Stacy Lattisaw, Stephanie Mills and James Ingram. He is presently working with new and upcoming artists.
Kenny has also played on numerous motion pictures soundtrack scores such as Beverly Hills Cop 1&2, Lean on Me, Money Talks, Colors, Hard To Get, Bill Bellamy-DJ Quick, Back in U Again, Walk Like a Man, Double Impact and Glitter. He also wrote and scored the soundtrack for Criminal Minds.
He has written songs for the Mary Jane Girls, Val Young, Rick James, Mary J. Blige, James Ingram and various other artists.
For his accomplishments, he’s the recipient of many platinum and gold albums from Rick James, Mary Jane Girls, Eddie Murphy, Stephanie Mills, Mickey Howard and Stacy Lattisaw. Along with that he has several gold reels from movie scores. Kenny has received Proclamation Recognition from the City of Buffalo and Lockport NY. He is inducted in the Buffalo and California Music Hall of Fame. He received the Top R&B Guitarist Buffalo Music Award and the Best Pop R&B Guitar Urban Music Award.
Throughout his career besides his live performing engagements, He has appeared on television shows such as Willie Nelson-Farm Aid Live, Keenan Ivory Wayans Show, Aresenio Hall, Soul Train, Jay Leno Tonight Show, Acapulco "92" MTV Unplugged, Live at the Apollo, Lou Rawls- Parade of Stars, "A" Team-Mr. T, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, VH1, Bobby Jones Gospel Show and the Tom Joyner Show. Music Videos "Glow" with Rick James and "Party all the Time" with Eddie Murphy.
