Rishon Odel Northington is a widely recognized creative talent, acclaimed locally and nationally. RiShon is an accomplished professional who has established
his proficiency as a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He has also made a significant impact in the film industry, having appeared in distinguished movies such as Marshall and Breathe. His on-stage presence is captivating, characterized by high energy performances, which epitomize his unique style and musical prowess.
This musician has toured with Brian Culbertson and Najee, is the Musical Director for Julius Wilson, and is a member of the International Society of Bassists. RiShon has collaborated with notable artists such as Cissy Houston, Marvin Winans, Phil Perry,
Donnie McClurkin, and “Love & Hip-Hop” star “Stevie J” Jordan.
He made a smashing debut on arco bass in 2006 at the JoAnn Faletta International Guitar Competition. He authored "Bass Volume 1," conducted his first orchestra in 2009, and was nominated for "Best Classical Musician” by Artvoice. RiShon composed music for prestigious institutions in Buffalo and elsewhere, and scored the film Less Than Perfect, produced by Reuben Santiago. In 2010, he released a DVD documentary
on Jazz History featuring band members of Charles Mingus' tour band.
RiShon’s love for music led him on frequent trips to music stores, attending drum workshops, and watching videos of drumming legends. Within a year of playing the drums, he secured his first professional gig with Malaco recording artist "Georgia Mass Choir," filling in for Alex Evans.
When he is not busy playing or composing, RiShon conducts workshops and clinics in various parts of the United States, Canada, and other regions. His teaching career
includes students who have pursued their education in vocal and instrumental music at renowned institutions such as Howard University, Berklee College of Music, Buffalo
State College, Michigan State, and more.
