Thomas F. Russo was one of the most in-demand drummers in the Buffalo music scene during the 1970s and ‘80s. Born and raised in Buffalo, Russo's drumming journey began in his formative years, and his talent resonated throughout the city for several decades. Tom's
educational background is rooted in Buffalo's public school system. He attended School 45 and later graduated from Lafayette High School.
Russo's drumming talents were sought after by various local bands throughout his career, highlighting his versatility and adaptability across genres. The groups Isaac, Penny Farthing, the Farrell Brothers, and Junction West, provided Russo with a platform to hone his skills and establish himself as a prominent drummer in the Buffalo music scene.
Tom’s involvement with Chuck Vicario and Big Wheelie and the Hubcaps from 1974 to 1978 marked a significant chapter in his career. For four years, he served as the drummer for this legendary local oldies group, as they garnered a loyal following and created a Hall of Fame career.
In the 80s, The Buffalo Blues Brothers Band offered a platform for Russo to showcase his skills within their blues tribute show. He shared the stage with musicians such as Billy McEwen, Jon Rose, Nick Salamone, Nick Veltri, Fred Rapillo, and Clay Shahlka.

A beloved drummer who left a lasting mark on the Buffalo music scene, Tom Russo passed away on January 18th, 1994, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. The outpouring of support following his passing served as a testament to his character, and also his deep connection with the local music community.
A benefit concert held at the Marquee at the Tralf featured several of his former bands, including Big Wheelie,
Junction West, and the Buffalo Blues Band. The participation of additional local musicians like The Excellos, Barbara Sinclair, Dolly Durante, Donna Rose, and many others, further solidified the respect and admiration Russo commanded within the
Buffalo music scene.
