Da’Von L. McCune is a
dedicated professional with a profound commitment to community empowerment and
creative problem-solving. With a diverse background spanning community
organizing, education, public speaking, and a professional recording artist, he
envisions a world characterized by justice and equity built through power of
organized people and organized money.
A graduate of the
University at Buffalo, Da’Von holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a
Master’s degree in Urban Planning, specializing in Community and Neighborhood
Development. His passion for community service is exemplified through his
extensive engagement with youth initiatives, notably as the Program Manager of
The Grant Street Neighborhood Center at PUSH Buffalo, where he oversees
year-round programming for youth.
Da’Von's journey in
community engagement traces back to his participation in various after-school
programs in Buffalo, including Upward Bound and Beam programs. Since then, he
has remained deeply involved, serving in roles such as managing the Youth Arts
Program at Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology and instructing in the
Science Technology Enrichment Program and the Upward Bound at UB.
He has also contributed
significantly as a GED® instructor for BPS Adult Education, guiding at-risk
youth and adults toward academic success. He continues to create a culture of
academic achievement using self-responsibility and music as a foundation.
As a founding board
member of The Galactic Tribe and The Wakanda Alliance Program, Da’Von fosters
meaningful dialogues through art inspired Afrofuturism and diving into the rich
cultures of the African diaspora. Additionally, he serves as Co-Vice Chair on
the Board of the King Urban Life Center, demonstrating his leadership and
dedication to community development.
Beyond his community
work, Da’Von is known as D Real McCoy, an MC whose music reflects a profound
journey through life’s complexities. Rooted in his upbringing immersed in
Gospel, R&B, and later, hip-hop, his music touches on diverse themes such
as motivation, spirituality, politics, mental health, and social issues.
Through his debut EP “Finding My Voice,” D Real McCoy authentically shares his
experiences and perspectives, bridging gaps and sparking important
conversations.
Furthermore, Da’Von
founded D Real McCoy Entertainment, a small business merging entertainment and
education for the building oneself and the community.
DRME is committed to
promoting building power and social justice through a range of
entertainment-driven educational events, mentorship programs, sports
initiatives, consulting, financial education workshops, and community-building
activities.
